I knew I was going to get rained on at some point today. I was also warned about the wind in Sparwood. Thankfully the wind never got too strong but the rain more than made up for it. The climb to the top of Crowsnest Pass wasn't particularly challenging. By the time I reached the top the temperature had dropped to 13* and the rain started pouring down.
I decided that it would be beneficial for me to not risk getting sick in the cold or run over with the limited visibility and hitch hiked the 20km from the summit down to Blairmore. I don't recall getting the name of the man who picked me up but he definitely saved my butt. He dropped me of at a nice cafe called Stones Throw where they very kindly let me store my bike and thaw out for about 2 hours. I never really fully warmed up until I started riding again. It made for a fairly quick ride into Pincher Creek since I kept trying to pedal hard enough to keep my temperature up. Since I was completely soaked I decided to get a motel so I could dry my stuff out.
I'm out of the mountains now so it's on to the next stage of this trip.
A little outside Fernie before I got hosed by rain
Yup, it was going to get ugly.
No more mountains, but still raining near Pincher Creek
At least these weren't blowing very much today.
